Poison Sumac has seven to 13 leaflets per leaf. The leaflets have smooth edges and pointed tips. Mainly found in the eastern U.S., poison sumac grows in peat bogs and swamps as a shrub or a small tree. The allergen containing berries are white and grow between the leaf and the branch.
The fluid in the blisters will not spread the rash. Before blisters form, the rash can only be spread by unbound urushiol. You should still avoid scratching blisters, because fingernails may carry bacteria that could cause an infection.
